Christmas Creep Good or Bad ?And Why?

Christmas creep is a merchandising phenomenon in which merchants and retailers exploit the commercialized status of Christmas by moving up the start of the holiday shopping season. In recently years, the Christmas shopping seasons come earlier and earlier, and it has different impacts on customers and retailers.

No doubt customers benefit from Christmas creep a lot. In the marketing research,38 percent of consumers begin to shop early. The earlier time customers prepare for the Christmas gifts, the more gifts customers can choose. Customers usually go shopping just with vague purposes which means they just know what kind of things they want to buy, not what specific things they want to buy. As the phenomenon,Christmas creep allows customers to think of more details about Christmas holidays and give more potential options to customers.Besides the options,Christmas creep also provides customers a relatively convenient, relaxed environment to enjoy shopping compared with the totally opposite example "Black Friday".American family usually participates in the Black Friday after the Thanksgiving Dinner. Customers benefit from the the only day with the largest discount, because they do save money. While how about the customer experience about shopping process in Black Friday?I did a marketing research about the Black Friday in my social hub.In my 13 friends who attend the shopping in Black Friday,10 of them feel terrible, because every mall is so crowed that they have to wait for two hours or three hours to entry one shop.Only 3 feel happy because they snap up what wanted to buy. In the short term discount day, shopping is not a kind of enjoying but battling.Compared with short term promotion, Christmas creep appears lovely and friendly.

While from the perspective of culture and meanings,we have reasons to dislike Christmas creep. Now it is very common that some retailers begin decorating their shops and selling Christmas stuff as soon as October. It is definitely too early because between Christmas and October there are also Halloween and Thanksgiving days which are important to American. In my opinion,it is uncomfortable to celebrate the Halloween which should be full of scary atmosphere instead of Christmas decoration environment. As we know that each festival has its own significance and culture,I cannot deny I love Christmas best, while I cannot accept that Santa Claus replaces zombies in Halloween. The Christmas creep may brings many benefits, while it makes festival not pure as before.

Retailers benefit from Christmas creeping because Christmas creep helps to lengthen production sale period.According to the marketing research, retailers who participate in Christmas creep has more advantages in holding and improving market share when they compete with their competitors. The extended selling season provides more opportunities for customers
