Alexander the great was born in Pella in 365 BC. He was one of the greatest warriors in ancient Greece. He was a genius with his plan pursuing the vision to unite the whole world. Philip of Macedonia his father had brought most of the city and states on mainland Greece using military and diplomatic means. After his death Alexander inherited a strong kingdom and an experienced army. The history shows that his father had a big role on Alexander's life for what he was.

Alexander had a great ambition to be a good king and a strong spear fighter. He was a great admirer of Achilles. His first tutor was a kinsman of Olympias a stern and crabbed old disciplinarian called Leonidas. His training left its mark on him. After Alexander captured Gaaza, as always he used to send presents home to his mother and sister but would never forget his old tutor.

Alexander's second tutor name was Lysimachus of Acarnaia; he had a different character who earned himself some easy popularity by encouraging his royal pupil's fantasies. He used to call Alexander Achilles, Philip Peleus and himself Phoenix (the name of Achilles elderly mentor in the Iliad). Alexander was taught music (loved playing Lyre), reading and writing. The experts instructed him the arts of sword play, archery, horse riding and javelin throwing but he never learned to swim. He was gifted a horse named Bucephalas which he rode into almost every major battle he fought
