How does the doctor in The Pearl symbolize colonial arrogance, oppression, and greed? He symbolize his colonial arrogance, oppression, and greed when he doesn't want to help Kino and his family to give the cure for Coyotito when he had stunged by a scorpion. He said to Kino that he is a little Indian, with a baby got stunged by a scorpion. When the doctor had a thought of being in Paris, having a bottle of wine, and lived with a beautiful and nice girl, he wanted to get the pearl of his own for free.

The doctor shows his arrogance when he doesn't wanted to help Kino to make Coyotito feel better from a scorpion stunged him. When Juana and Kino found out that Coyotito had poisonous inside, they ran quickly to the doctor's house for an emergency. The doctor told them that he doesn't want to help because he was very lazy and greedy. He yelled at them, "I'm a doctor, not a veterinary."Kino was mad and raged that the doctor was being rude and selfish. He didn't like how the doctor treated him and his family.

The oppression of the doctor was when he called Kino a little Indian with a baby got stunged. When they went to the doctor's house to fix the baby, the doctor said," it is a little Indian with a baby." The doctor asked them if they have any money to pay for the medical bill, he forced his servant to check if Kino has money. Kino didn't have any money because he was very poor for Coyotio's medical treatment. Kino still begged him to take way the poisonous from the baby.

The doctor shows his greed to Kino that he wanted to get the pearl without paying. Kino and his wife were getting dressed to the church to be prepared for Coyotito to be baptized. They have to bring the pearl they found under the ocean to pay for the priest. Everyone was all dressed and the doctor was there also with his servant. When the doctor saw Kino and his wife carrying the pearl, he imagined of being in Paris having a bottle of wine, and lived with a beautiful and nice girl. Kino and Juana decided to sell the pearl to have better money, but the doctor wanted to have the pearl for himself.
