Constantine I, also known as Constantine the Great and Saint Constantine, came to power in a.d. 306 until a.d. 337. He is known for making Christianity legal and even himself converting into a Christian as well. He and his co-emperor, Licinius, issued the Edict of Milan, in 303, which gave tolerance to all religns through out the empire of Rome. During the civil wars in Rome, Constantine defeated the emperors , Licinius and Maxentius. He also defeated the Franks, Samarians, Visigoths, and Alamannis. He regained some parts of Dacia which had been abandoned for nearly a century.

Constantine was also known for being the founder of the Eastern Empire of Rome. He built the city of Constinople by taking the city of Byzantium and renaming it in his honor. His city , Constinople, was later made the Capital of Eastern Empire of Rome for over one thousand years. Constantine was a smart emperor; who used Christianity to empower his government throughout the Roman Empire and moved the capital to the banks of the Bosporus. Constantine was a ruler of major historical importance.

Constantine had six offspring, and was apart of the Constanian Dynasty, and left his Empire to Constantine II when he died at around the age 65 in 337.
