American Government 3RD Block 9/27/11

On July 4th 1776, The Declaration of Independence was finally written, voted on and signed to establish liberty in America. Before and after this document was created, there was a journey and war for freedom called the American Revolution. The American Revolution was caused by the many injustices the British carried through with the colonies such as taking away salutary neglect and establishing taxes without representation or consent of the colonist.

For instance salutary neglect had a major impact to why the American Revolution began. Salutary neglect was something that the colonies enjoyed very much, not only did they have liberty from Great Britain but they grew economically because the British would buy our exporting goods. This all came to an end after the French and Indian war in 1763, because England gained the land east of the Mississippi and Canada , they thought it was best to place a law called the Proclamation Line. This Law included that no one was to occupy the land without permission or without paying taxes which upset the colonist a great deal.

Another reason that could have begun the American Revolution is Britain establishing taxes on every colony without consent or representation. These taxes were; The Sugar act in 1764, The Stamp act in 1765, The Quartering act in 1765, The Declaratory act in 1766, The Townshend acts in 1767, The Tea act in 1773 and lastly the Coercive acts in 1774. The Acts that I believe that the colonist disliked the most were the Quartering Acts, the Declaratory Acts, and the Coercive Acts. The quartering acts were that the colonist had to undertake British soldiers under their roof and feed and give them rum daily. The declaratory acts were that the British no longer gave them sovernity meaning that Britain had all the control over the colonies. And lastly the Coercive acts were mostly but upon the colony of Massachusetts after the rebellion of The Boston Tea Party, this act closed all the ports to Massachusetts and embarked more soldiers to keep watch on the colony.

There are many other things that also could have influenced the American Revolution but one thing for sure was that Britain made many mistakes, specially trying to keep us from evolving and having rights to think and do what is best for us, we weren't ready for this war but in order to get liberty which is what we deserved, us Americans what had to be done.
