Effects of Memories

It's not a surprise that the Effects of memories can make what a person is. This idea is showed in two ways; one in a lot of ways by the novel Ender's Game and one in not so many ways by the movie The Last Starfighter. In Ender's Game the effects are a good thing that encourages Ender to only go to a certain level. Same as in The Lost Starfighter, the effects are also a good thing but there it is not showed as much. Alex and Ender do not use the same types of memories.

The main character of Ender,s Game, Ender, uses the memories in a good way; his memories of Valentine and Alai affect his mental state when he is worn out from fighting battles at the end of the book. His memory of Peter keeps him from wanting to use his power to cause pain, serving as a constant reminder that he should only go so far. This is showed in the fantasy game when Ender looks into the mirror and sees Peter. As for the Buggers they use the memories of their race to communicate to Ender of what happened. Ender understands this when he finds the Bugger pupa and becomes the Speaker For the Dead.

Alex Rogan, the main character in The Last Starfighter, does not however show the effects of memories on a person as much as Ender did. Alex, at first, does not want to go to Rylos but when he finds out Xur wants to kill him he decides to go. While preparing for the war Grig shows Alex his wife and then Alex shows Grig his family and says "This is my family; My mom, Lewis, my brother, and then Maggie." Alex then looks at the photo and he decides to fight the Kodan mainly for his family. Alex then goes out and beats the Kodan and goes back to the trailer park to say goodbye to his family and take Maggie with him to Rylos.
