Answer to Part-1

I am working in Design department or EDRC (Engineering Design and Research Centre) of Minerals and Metallurgical (M&M) business of Larsen & Toubro limited. We do provide EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) support to giant steel manufacturers of the country like SAIL, Tata Steel, and JSPL etc.L&T is a Indian MNC presently valued at USD 21Billion and considered as India’s one of the best EPC company over decades. However as a part of growth plant presently L&T’s core operations involves manufacturing & financial services also.  In my section it provides design engineering service for integrated steel plant, Sinter Plant, Blast Furnace, Beneficiation & Material handling plant, Coke Oven, PLTCM

MMH IC provides Engineering solutions as well as executes EPC projects for the following segments:

1. Mineral & Metal Sector

• Ferrous
• Non-Ferrous

1. Material Handling

MMH IC undertakes EPC (Engineering, Procurement & Construction) projects for ferrous (iron & steel making) and non-ferrous (aluminium, copper, lead & zinc) metal industries, bulk material & ash handling systems in power, port, and steel and mining sector. It has a well-established Industrial Machinery & Foundry work shop at Kansbahal, Odisha and a fabrication shop at Kanchipuram, Tamil Nadu to cater to the specific requirements of the customer.

Our department’s roles in our IC are as follows:

1. Proposal engineering
2. Consultancy Service
3. Design engineering for EPC projects
4. Equipment Design, engineering & manufacturing

Basic purpose for my company for International business with Bangladesh is to expand business, Increase sales and diversification. My selected country for my company’s business profile is “Bangladesh”. Bangladesh is located east side of India between Indian state West Bengal and North east states Manipur, Tripura and some part of Assam.

For choosing this specific country different factors illustrated here under:

4. Business modes.

I will discuss the entire thing in point of view of following aspect of international business for my company:

1. Political policies and legal practices:

Since from independence of Bangladesh in the year 1971 India has been holding a healthy relationship with Bangladesh. Bangladesh achieved its freedom from east Pakistan and named as Bangladesh  is only for major role played and indirect war  of those countries for whose India has to rethink to deploy Foreign policy with it as Bangladesh’s Socio economic and political movement and even its internal affairs highly influences foreign as well as diplomatic policy of India. Geographically Bangladesh is located in vital position for India’s perspective and Bangladesh is a major role player to augment or control India’s different internal matter like immigrant problem, cross border terrorist activities, Extremist Islamic movement or provocation by Pakistan. Also Bangladesh is helping India in many a ways for counterterrorism movement, transit road through its major cities that connects up to Myanmar. This Transit road helps Indian companies for various export-import business with Bangladesh. Bangladesh is also an open economy to get an easy access in their markets. The political environment of countries is a criticalconcern for the international business.Bangladesh’s politically stable now. Islamic extremist are now back foot and ruling government got upper hand over all opposition parties. Hence government is stable and with broad vision equalities and maintaining a good relationship. This government’s ideology is to create more and more infrastructure development and attracting FDI.

All foreign companies enjoy tax holiday’s access of ports. Tax policy and land policies are very much flexible. Bangladeshi Government in Chittagong the capital city of Bangladesh offers different SEZ for foreign companies for setting up of their offices. Not only in Chittagong also in other major cities like Dhaka the capital of Bangladesh, Narayanganj the other famous port city of Bangladesh offering such SEZ to invite more FDI in their country. Tax laws are very much flexible and tax rate is low. My company can take advantages of this two can set up marketing and engineering office in such different strategic location and can get Tax benefits in case of revenue earning from different project site.

1. Cultural factors:

Bangladeshis in many aspects are similar culture with Indians. Basically it was divided during pre-independence in the year 1905 the division of entire Bengal part of undivided .Basically male dominated family India. Social structure is similar to our country Indian culture in all aspects resembles with culture,its people so that we can have a very good communication with local people and can understand their demand and market scenario very easily. Out of approx. eighteen crore population 16 crores are Muslims in religion and 2 crores are Hindu and other minority people. Male dominated society basically and women holds only few administrative posts. Bangladesh is bit of Islamic extremist country but at present Awami League has got an upper hand over them and trying to implement an equal rights acts for all religious people of Bangladesh.Awami League always holds a good neighborhood relationship with India. But in near future if main opponent party come in power they can overrule everything including the equality rights imposed by Awami League government. Bengali is   the mother language and official language of Bangladesh. That is the only reason our company’s west bengal based office can control well the entire business with Bangladesh very easily for similarity in culture, anguage etc.
