FINISH THE FOLLOWING FROM SESSION 2:

1. FINISH THE "MINING FOR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY CASE" IE.:

ANSWER QUESTIONS:

A. WHAT ARE THE ARGUMENTS AGAINST THE MINING COMPANY BEING REQUIRED TO BE SOCIALLY RESPONSIBLE?

B. DO QUESTION #3: IE THE SIX EXTERNAL FORCES APPLIED TO THE MINING COMPANY. (later)

MINING COMPANY AND CASE AGAINST CSR:

1. BUSINESS IS BUSINESS...

2. BUSINEss plays by its own rules:

Business "bluffing" - we know that business rules differ from personal/societal rules....ie we cannot apply the same set of (Personal) standards to business - this would simply be unfair!

Mining company:

Mining company is expected to minimize costs - so for example, they should not be expected to look after the welfare of the local village - they built low cost housing - this is the rule of business - minimze your costs.

Should be govenrnemnt watchdogs to monitor how such companies affect local communities.

4. organizations cannot be held accountable - ie they are simply an abstract entirty. Who can you hold responsible? Same thing here in the mining example - what do you do to the company itself? You hope the business leaders will conduct their business reposnbily but you cant really re-design a company to do your social bidding.

big business like the mining company is often welcomed into underdeveloped regions like this village - you cant prevent
