Business Communication Trends

Communication in business is very important. Low communication can cause loss of customers or problems within the organization. Communication is a major part of anyone's day. Learning to communicate properly will lessen the chance of miscommunication and misunderstandings. Trend in communication have changed over the years. Businesses have gone from mailing letters to email. To keep the office moving efficiently, communication to employees, managers, executives and customers is very important. Many businesses also are using tele-conferencing rather than face-to-face meetings. Due to advancements in technology, business communication trends are also advancing.

My day-to-day work activities include constant communication with customers, executives and other managers not only in my office, but in our other locations too. Email is my main contact with my employees. I manage sixteen employees and need to get the same message to everyone. The best and most efficient way to accomplish this is through email. Email is a good way to keep my employees up-to-date as to their daily and weekly billing goals. Having meetings with my employees each week would take valuable time away from them completing their assigned tasks. Due to advancements we are able to electronically transmit invoices to a lot of our customers. This saves the company on costs for postage and paper.

When I first entered the business work environment, communication consisted of face-to-face meetings, memos and business letters. These communication trends worked for the period of time we were in. Meetings took employees away from their daily work causing lags in production. Working for an organization for over fourteen years, I have been able to see how the communication trends have changed. Conferences have gone from face-to-face meetings, where a lot of time is taken away from your daily work with travel, to calling in to a central location from your desk. I have never had the opportunity to use video-conferencing, but many organizations are using it.
