Hiring employees is not as easy as some people might think. Hundreds of applications are at hand at any given point and there are always more being turned in every day. Federal, state, and local laws also play a part in the decision making process. There are also moral and ethical issues to consider. After those are considered, there are also company policies to adhere to. If a company tells an applicant that they are not what the company is looking for at that time, this is what they might be dealing with.

Hiring is a difficult issue in any field. As management there is more to look at than just if a possible employee can do the job, because at any point and time there can be hundreds of applications in a file that the manager can pull to use. There is also an issue as to what race or nationality they are. the reason for that is the company I was working for had a rule that we needed to keep a minimum percentage of our staff as minorities. This became an issue if I was looking at hiring a new person for the warehouse. If I had three applications that were equally competent at the job, I had to check our percentages to ensure that I was going to stay in compliance with the new hire.

If an employee left I had to hire a person on the same ethnic group. If it came down to a point where there was one applicant that was considerably more qualified than the others, I would hire them and continue searching for the original person I was looking for even if it put me over staff for the moment. The turnover was fairly steady so I knew that I would have an opening in the next few months.

There were times that for one reason or another I had to make decisions that I did not feel comfortable with. There were times that I would think that one person would do better than another because of personality issues than another but i was unable to hire the person that I wanted to hire. This was because of the Equal Employment Opportunity Act, which caused me to hire my second choice rather than my first choice just because they were a minority. this did not make me comfortable at times as I felt that the person hired should have been the person that would not be able to perform the job functions but would also fit in with the current staff and have the best possibility of being the employee that I needed. I had a few employees that I pulled from their regular job functions and put them in the warehouse because their personality clashes so much with everyone else that it was causing issues in front of the
