Life is about making choice, and some events can change our point of view to the world. Five years ago, I decided to come to America despite the challenges that I knew I was going to face in the new land. This significant decision that I made changed everything about me and my point of view to the world.

Before I moved to America, I always thought people in the world are simply bad because I had met lots of selfish people when I was heading to school by train in Hong Kong. Every morning I had to suffer the possibility of getting pushed by others because they wanted to be the first to get into the train and sit down. Sometimes, I saw young people sitting down without letting the elders and pregnant woman a seat. This was a very selfish behavior. Moreover, people made their public places dirty. They threw trash and cigarette ends on the street. They even split everywhere in the public. When there were disasters happened, only a few people donated their money to the needy. Therefore, I viewed the world negatively.

Fortunately, I finally met some good people in America. They were very generous to me and I realized my point of view to the world started to change. In America, people are willing to help and kind to others. For example, people will donate food to the poor, homeless, and the veterans through the San Diego Food Bank. I was a volunteer there and I saw an abundant of foods donated by people. I am happy to help sorting out the foods and put them into different bags. Those bags would be distributed to the hungry people.

Unlike Hong Kong, San Diego is a beautiful and clean place. I rarely see trash and cigarette ends in the park or elsewhere. I do not see people pushing each other for their own gains on bus. Passengers always give their seats to the disable people on board. This behavior is kind and generous and it makes the world a better place to live in.

According to my experience, it is not right to say that people in the world are simply bad because there are a lot of good people in the world. Arriving at the United States changed my perspective to the world. I think the world would be a better place to live in if people begin to care about others and the environment.
