Chicago

Critique the major characters in the show. Renee Zellweger who plays (Roxie Hart) is one of the main characters in the musical movie Chicago. Roxie is a housewife who is a dreamer. Roxie wants to be rich and famous. She wants her name in all the newspapers and out of every mouth of the citizens around the world. Roxie wants to be famous so bad she will do whatever it takes to get to the top. Even if she has to lie, cheat, and even kill a man to do so. Roxie was having an affair with a guy name Fred. He promised Roxie he would make her famous, but he lied to her just to get a piece of her. Fred lied and crossed Roxie and she shot him. Roxie has a cold heart. When it comes to her husband she can give two cents for him. She doesn't care nor does she love him. All she wants is for him to come up with the money to pay the lawyer to get out of jail. She manipulated everyone that crossed her path. Roxie also has no remorse for killing a man, no emotion to what happen. When she used everyone to get her out of jail, all she cared about is why no one took her picture. Roxie didn't care that she broke her husband Amos's heart by claiming he was going to be a father, which she wasn't even pregnant. Better not cross or stand in Mrs. Hart's way, she might kill you. Renee Zellweger did an excellent job when it came to portraying Roxie's role. All that extra training to become that part really paid off. Her singing was on key and her dancing was right on step. She is what we call a triple affect. She can sing, dance, and act. To play a character that basically has no heart takes a lot on someone emotionally. For Renee to pull it off says a lot about her acting ability. All the other movies you see Renee in she is always this bubbly girl, but to see her play such a serious role is different. To me it is a good different that I would love to see more of.

Catherine Zeta-Jones (Velma Kelly) was another main character in the musical movie of Chicago. Velma is a famous vaudeville singer. She loves that she is on top and famous. Velma loves the attention that she gets from the press. She also loves to see her name in the papers and magazines. Velma has a dark, rude, malicious personality. Velma is one of those types of girls that would do anything also to keep her and her name famous. Velma killed her sister and her husband. Her sister was also famous; the both of them had a double act together. Velma's sister was caught sleeping with her husband and she shot them both. Velma was also stand offish to people. She wouldn't give you the time or day or less it was benefiting to her. When Roxie was in jail she tried several times to talk to Velma but she didn't want anything to do with her. But once Roxie was stealing Velma's fame that's when she wanted to get to know and talk to her. Velma was desperate. She is also selfish, and she would use you to get back up to the top. Catherine I have always loved her roles in movies. This is another one I can add to the pile of movies that I love her in. Catherine is a very good actress. You give her a part and she can play just about anything. She is a good dancer, but to me she could have put a little more effort into her moves to make them stand out more. Catherine to me seems like she wasn't trying as hard when it came to dancing as she did with singing and acting. Catherine has a very good singing voice. She was putting her energy into singing and it paid off.

Queen Latifah (Mama Morton) in the musical movie Chicago was excellent. Mama had a sense of humor to her. Mama protects her girls in jail. You do Mama a favor, she will do one back for you, but with a price. Mama loves money. She loves working out deals with you because that means she was getting money in her pocket. The more you pay, the better she cares for you. You put in for Mama, and she will put out for you. She was true to her words too. She favored the girl who was famous at the time. At first she favored Velma because she was the one everyone wanted at the time. Next it was Roxie. She was taking on to Kitty but then Roxie stole her fame also. At the end Velma had her heart. She did everything to get Velma out of jail even if it meant stabbing people in the back. Mama gave Velma Roxie's dairy to keep her in jail so Velma can make a deal to be free. Mama had connections. You wanted to be good to her so that you can get the hook up. Mama was conniving and she manipulates the people to get what she wants. She was playing devil's advocate. Queen Latifah is one of my favorite actresses. She is one of those you can give her a plot and she plays it and make the character come to alive. She just has this fun energy to her and the roles she play. She brings something to every one of her characters including her character Mama Morton. She can go from playing a Matron in jail to a sexy dress show singing girl. I love Queen's voice. For being on the heavier side what little dancing she did, she can move. I loved her part in this show. She did amazing job with her character.

Richard Gere (Billy Flynn) is the best criminal lawyer around. He never lost a case especially if you're a pretty female. Billy even though he lies and cheats his way to the best lawyer around, she has a kind heart. Amos Hart, Roxie's husband came to Billy with only 2000 thousand dollars out of the 5000 thousand dollars that Billy was asking to represent Roxie. Instead of turning him down he was willing to work with him by having an auction to see off Roxie's personal items to help cover the cost. Billy is also sensitive. Billy plays fair for the most part when it comes to do his job and the work that he does. He loves what he does. He loves being a lawyer. Just like the girls he represents they like fame and so does he when it comes to being the best. Billy would do whatever it takes to keep his name known and the people coming back wanting more. Richard Gere is one of my favorite actors. I love his acting. In this show he did an awesome job playing his character. Richard isn't a bad singer and dancer. I never knew he can sing. Most of his movies she is usually quiet but in this movie was had a talkative character and I liked that. Not only was he talkative but he had to get up and dance, take off his clothes, and sing. I love Richards work here and I would love to see him in more roles like the one he played in this movie.

John C. Reilly (Amos Hart) is an invisible man without a back bone in this show. Amos was married to Roxie. Roxie never gave him a foot to stand on. Amos was this loving, caring, and devoted husband. He loved his wife. Amos did what he can to provide for his wife. He worked 14 long hours as a mechanic just so Roxie can stay home. Roxie ignored Amos, she made him invisible. Roxie used him as a meal ticket to get ahead in this world.
