Nobody gets high and beats their spouse and children. Nobody loses their kidneys, a pancreas, or a liver, no matter how much cannabis they consume. There is no such thing as a pot-o-holic. Yet, marijuana is illegal in the United States. For most of human history, marijuana has been completely legal. It's not a recently discovered plant. The legalization of Marijuana is a common controversy in today's society. Currently the community is divided on the issue. Questions are constantly being thrown around such as "How does it affect the body?" and "What good does it do for a person? Marijuana should be legal all across the United States because of all the good it can do for a person's health, the use of hemp in the textile industry, and the tax revenue it could produce.

Medical Marijuana

The use of marijuana with medicinal a purpose has been practice for many years. Marijuana is a plant when use can help relief the symptoms of glaucoma. This is a condition where the channels through which the eye fluid flows gradually become blocked, and the intraocular pressure gradually increases causing increasing damage to the optic nerve and gradual deterioration of vision. Smoking marijuana help decrease the pressure by opening the canals in which the excess fluid can drain. As a result people who suffer from glaucoma would be able to naturally treat their condition. Furthermore, if marijuana is legalized it can be grown at home. In addition, marijuana can emotionally help patients going through cancer. For example, this is often a scary journey to recovery. Users under the influence of THC, which is the main ingredient in marijuana, can just unplug and daydream the time away, rather than rest afraid and worried about what's happening to their bodies. For all of this reason I believe marijuana should be legal in all states. However, currently the federal government disagrees. The law classifies marijuana as one of the most dangerous drugs. The penalties for possession of marijuana can range from a small fine to a prison sentence.

Hemp Industry

Moreover, I believe marijuana should be legalized for the use of hemp. Hemp is the fiber from the cannabis plant and is the strongest natural fiber in the world. The only way we can grow hemp is if marijuana is legalized because even thought in the hemp there is very low presence of THC it would still be illegal to grow it. The potential of hemp for paper production is enormous. For example, one acre of hemp can produce four times more paper than one acre of trees. Therefore, it would eliminate the need to chop down billions of trees. Millions of acres of forests and huge areas of wildlife habitat could be preserved. In addition, hemp can also be substituted for cotton to make textiles. It is said hemp fiber is much stronger than cotton and can be used to make all types of clothing. In fact, the
