My own understanding about the poem which is "The heart asks pleasure first" by Emily Dickinson as follows; I think that the author is talking about how life generally progress about freedom. All of us want to have a freedom and everyone wants to escape from pain and suffering. The line which is the heart asks pleasure first it's all about we seek for enjoyment but enjoyments is measured in pain. Everyone desires happiness in life. All of us want to have fun because it's good medicine that gives our body relief. Every time we are having good time, it relaxes us and we are stress free. But when they discover or feel they are no longer happy of what they are doing they will find another or try new things to be happy again. The poem is all about how people react if they encounter problems and sufferings in life and how their freedom to choose affects the daily living activity of the people. The will of Inquisitor that she is talking about is none other than God. I think the author shows that everything in this earth is come from God so she believes that calling upon his name is very important especially when we have problems, trials, obstacles, pains and troubles in life. The author is simply observing the people their reaction to God. She emphasizes that prayer is very important to communicate with God every day. Faith means believing and trusting God no matter what, not simply giving up when things don't go perfectly and eventually giving up completely in life. Sleeps which is stated also in the poem to means happiness too because when we sleep our minds feel comfortable and it is the time for us to feel free because we think positively and escape from unnecessary things.
