Can't repeat the past?.... Why of course you can!"

This line was said by Gatsby to Nick in chapter 6 after the party was over. This was one of the most significant lines that effect throughout the story. Nick told Gatsby to face the reality, events and things that had occurred in the past; just let it passed and focused in the real event. The line above that Gatsby responded to Nick became a tragic ironic in Gatsby's fate. Gatsby could not tolerate it until Daisy said to Tom that she never loved him. Gatsby believed in his dream that one day it would eventually come true and Everything Gatsby has done in his life has been with the purpose of fulfilling the most unrealistic dream which was to recuperate the past. He didn't care what kind of consequences would he face and tried very hard to achieve his dream, however, he never realized that he could not buy love or happiness with his money.

"Daisy and Jordan lay upon an enormous couch, like silver idols weighing down their own white dresses against the singing breeze of the fans."

Nick described this when they were planning to go have fun in New York City in chapter 7. Throughout the story, readers could notice that Fitzgerald used a lot of colors to express the feelings that the characters had. In this line (above), there's the color of "silver" and "white." These colors symbolized the wealth of the rich characters were wearing. The author used a simile to describe Daisy and Jordan like "an idol weighing down their own dresses against the singing breeze of the fans." Nick tried to express how gorgeous they look. In this novel, women appearances seem to appear very significant throughout the story. Both Daisy and Jordan tried to make themselves look gorgeous to represent themselves as a high social standard. They knew that people would judge them based on their outlook. Later, this line would appear to be significant because all Daisy wanted was the wealth. She said "it is best for a little girl to be like a fool."
