The Practice of Speaking English Inside Philippine Classrooms for Subjects Taught in English

It is a dominant problem among Philippine teaching-learning institutions to strengthen the use of the English language. It may be true to schools within the city limits, schools which follow strict screening on admission of learners, schools which fully implement proper sectioning of learners based on their capabilities to learn, schools which have the full to access to the new technology to include computers and other learning machines which are deemed necessary in the teaching-learning process. Lucky are those teachers who are given the teaching assignments where all the aforementioned factors are present. But to the schools which are considered far from the so-called civilization, permit me to say, we teachers are unfortunate because we feel the sacrifice - great sacrifice. I belong to a group of teachers who have the ardent need for more patience and initiative due to the setting where our school has been situated. We admit everyone in the community, everyone who has the urge for education and to be educated. We could not fully implement screening on the sectioning during enrollments. We have lots of students but we lack the number of qualified and dedicated teachers who will commit to teach English by heart. Sometimes, due to the admitted students who have the age matured enough to be taught the basics of English, we tend to speak in local dialect for us teachers to be understood; to make our teaching more meaningful to the learners. With this, I firmly believe that we go away from the truth of sacrificing for our learners. Most of the times too, we consider that our monthly salary could not even suffice our needs for ourselves and our family. Because of this situation, we lose that spirit to teach by heart.
