Abstract

The main aim of this paper is to understand - Does the abuse of Kava in the name of culture is really affecting the productivity of a person in the corporate world. Corporate governance characteristics include board which is made up of multiple directors and many ethnic backgrounds of shareholders. Corporate governance seeks to ensure a fair return on the investment and also it establishes procedures and incentives for executives to achieve those goals. The financial crisis points the lack of corporate governance practice and that many business organizations have taken heed to ensure compliance of corporate governance are met by everyone in the business organization. Rapid modernization has caused Fiji to adopt new cultural trends that are at odds with traditional customs. Kava is a drink that is usually served at formal ceremonies such as meetings of village elders and chiefs but as a result of modernist influences, Kava has become more of a social gathering beverage rather than ritualistic practice.

This research paper aims to analyze the link cultural influence of Kava drinking and reduction of productivity of a person. As there are only limited researches so far on cultural influence in the practice of corporate governance and the productivity of a person being affected, this research would contribute to the existing knowledge.  Also through this research paper I agree that the productivity of a person decreases as Kava drinking is abused through cultural influence which also affects the corporate governance.
