A leader in the United States Army requires a person to not only perfect their strengths, but also improve their weakness. In order for a leader to perfect their strengths and work on their weakness they must be able to identify them. Since becoming a senior noncommissioned officer in the army, I have had the opportunity to led soldiers at many different levels and experience a plethora of leadership situations that have allowed me to identify my strengths and weakness. My strengths as a leader are motivation, counseling, creativity, and professional development. My weaknesses are effective communication, active listening, and sensitivity. Over the years, I have attended many leadership schools, course, and seminars that have taught me on how future leaders need to operate in order to be effective. While I did not come out of those schools as the president, it taught me to understand what my strengths and weakness are and how to work on them. In the next five years, I want to make the rank of First Sergeant. The First Sergeant is the senior noncommissioned officer of the company and is the advisor to the commander. Soldiers in the company look to the First Sergeant for purpose, direction, motivation. It is imperative that I continue to work on both my strengths and weakness to maintain my leadership position in the strongest military force in the world. Providing motivation to my soldiers is paramount in accomplishing the missions that come from higher. I think this is my strongest attribute as a leader. As a Platoon Sergeant in an Advance Individual Training environment, future soldiers are separated from their families, learning to become soldiers, and learn a job. At times these soldiers will become lonely and lose sight of why they joined the army. I come to work with a positive attitude and with the soldier welfare and health on my mind. This keeps me energetic at 05:00hrs in the morning when administering Physical Fitness, during school hours, and after hours when the soldiers have questions.
