When I was first asked when was the murder of Duncan first plotted I immediately referred to the time when Lady Macbeth was first introduced in the play when she was reading the letter Macbeth has written her and had immediately decided that killing Duncan was the only way for making all of the witches prophesies come true. After having read this article my answer to the question has changed for I'm no longer as sure to when Duncan's murder was plotted as I was before. During Lady Macbeth's first encounter with Macbeth she mentions that Macbeth had sworn to kill Duncan in order to become king but in the play there isn't a scene where this may have happened. This also doesn't make sense because Macbeth got the idea of killing Duncan only after his encounter with the Witches and Lady Macbeth speaks as if it was planned before Macbeth's encounter. This article mentions that this may have been mistake made by Shakespeare but I believe it may have been a way to get people thinking about the play and more about Macbeth's character for I have read many book and have encountered situations where I've felt as if a scene in the story is missing making me think more about the book.
