The question that Mills asked was "Would mankind be at all better off if women were free?" Throughout the paper he gives examples of why this answer would be yes. Some of these facts are; instead of one type of person to make improvements there are now two types of people to make improvements. Further on Mills states that woman can be just a capable to make business decisions. This makes this point even more clear. Mills goes on to say that a women's opinion would prove to be a benefit for mankind. The only down fall that Mills sees to women being free is that women think too much about charity. There is not enough evidence to support this theory though.

The organization of this piece is cause and effect. Mills list the benefits of women being free. Then he gives examples of how these things might work, if men would let women be free. His main focus in this paper is not just women in general, its married women which doesn't seem like that big of a difference. Yet to Mills it is a big deal cause at that time married women at that time had less rights than anyone. They had to obey every direction there husband gave them. The form of this paper was easy to follow because it was cause and effect. So he listed a situation and what this may cause for men and women.

Following the thought pattern that Mills had was difficult at times because he used complex words that had to be explained in foot notes. He brought in Gods from way back in time which made it complex in a whole new way. Some parts of the piece needed to be read more than twice to become understandable. This explains why this was written for an educated man.
