In Search of Forgiveness

How many percent of people forgive and improve their lives? Forgiveness is a major part to keep moving forward. In order to overcome the hurtful events brought into your life experience as a result of others or by your own actions. "Why do I have to forgive?" an Antwone's question that needs answering.

Throughout the film, Antwone tries to find the reason for their anger. Fisher had a sad childhood, marked by the death of his father and the abandonment of his mother, he struggled to get by in an abusive adoptive family. As Antwone recounts his past, Dr.Davenport absorbs the problem of his patient and take him how her personal life, causing a change in their lifestyle. Antwone wins conviction and perseverance to find his real family thanks to the Davenport advices. Davenport's advice gives Antwone the conviction and perseverance to find his real family while fighting to overcome his tortured past, discover his true identity, and find the answers that still remain unanswered, to succeed in the future.

Forgiveness requires much mental strength, and is characterized in this film by forgiving others who have made mistakes, accepting others' faults, releasing negative emotions, and, most importantly, accepting their faults, as Antwone does with his mother. Forgiveness is to rid oneself of negative emotions- anger, anxiety, and resentment- in order to be more effective and have peace in your heart and in your life.

In Dr. Davenport, Antwone grudgingly finds support through the soul-searching that follows. Davenport guides Fisher in his search to uncover his family and to forgive the abandonment of the people he had so desperately needed throughout his grief-stricken childhood. Gradually, Antwone learns to face his past, forgive the people who have hurt him, and move past the deep-seated hatred he has of others. Fisher himself embodies a desperate need for affection in his attempt to use the Davenports as surrogate parents; replacing the parents he had so desperately needed during his childhood. The mask he wears of rage and aggression is in fact a weak and desperate cry for help.

Though Antwone may have thought that he should continue to punish his offenders, he does this by turning on the people that could benefit him most. He turns the betrayal and neglect that has resonated throughout his entire life unto the people that surround him. Though forgiveness is difficult to achieve because of both circumstances and the level of aggression and other negative attitudes within us, once we forgive, the benefits transcend the negativity. Eventually, Antwone manages to break free of fear, conquer insecurities, and show how strong he is both inside and out, even after the trials and tribulations he went through in his youth.
