Should You Get Even?

In every aspect of life there is a theme or key point, it happens in everyday life. You see things reflected into books, movies, and radio broadcastings. With the topic of movies, a constant theme is what makes the movie have a point and gets you hooked into watching it. Although there are many genres of movies, horror, comedy, romance, those are not the basic theme. You find that in some movies the theme is revenge against a sibling, friend, and most often a lover.

Revenge is described as something you can get addicted to if allowing yourself to give in to its yearning desire. In a way it can be looked at as a drug, but also as something as simple as that enticing piece of chocolate cake sitting in the bakery window. If the latter, you know for a fact that the cake is bad for you and that if you are to give in you should only have a small amount instead of overindulging. Revenge is the same way. "A little can cure you, a lot can kill you, and you should avoid getting hooked," (Barreca 1). If you must practice revenge so that you can get over the hurt that has occurred, it is suggested that you do it in a classy way. Also, that you let your rage out and then get over it and move on.

A standard form of revenge is to just simply right about it and basically attack the person that wronged you. Bernie Madoff's alleged mistress did just this when she was wronged. Another way would be to allow others to view how the person wronging you actually treats you because everyone can have an alternate personality so that they are viewed in a better way. This is what Allison did when she received a very hurtful letter from her writer boyfriend. In the letter is described how he had been cheating on her, and that his mistress viewed their relationship as a childish one. Also, that she should move on and find new friends because he had a closer relationship with the ones they shared. Her act of revenge can be viewed as a classy one because she sent the letter to friends and office pals, asking them to critique his style of writing; she was going to strike a nerve. But after sending the letters to him to hurt him by attacking his writing she didn't continue on in seeking ways to hurt him, she simply moved on.

Women are generally more likely to act on their emotions than men, so they don't want to simply strike back they want to strike back so that it really hurts. However, women are supposed to be all about being sweet. Since we as women have are given the sweet and innocent attitude, women are not supposed to want to strike back. The appearance, or generalization, of how women handle certain situations is far too out of reach. It is as if women are put on a pedestal with their emotions. Apparently women are not supposed to get out of control and lose their tactful manner even if we are humiliated, betrayed or even hurt beyond measure.
