August 16, 1832 Wilhelm Maximilian Wundt was born in a small town called Neckarau which is located in Germany. His father was known as a Lutheran minister, and had an assistant who was also his sons Wilhelm's tutor and the person he also shared a room with. 13 years of age Wilhelm was sent off to a boarding school and was released at the age of 19 where he went on to a University to study medicine in order to support his self throughout his life. Wilhelm spent most of his time at the University of Tubingen, Heidelberg, and Berlin. In the year of 1857 he had been chosen to be a professor at the University of Heidelberg so that's where he started teaching courses on physiology. Taking a position at Leipzig University, Wundt founded the first of only two experimental psychology labs in that time period.

Wundt was known to believe that psychology was the science of conscious experience and that observers that were trained could accurately describe thoughts, feelings, and emotions through the process known as introspection Some of his ideas were known to be very difficult to understand because he was involved in so many areas, because he changed a lot of his views about many subjects in the 68 years he was writing, and also was because his writing had no single, common theme. One thing he was mainly focused on was some of research on reaction times, the time it takes between the first impressions.
