Aumann, I., L. Tedja, and J. M. Graf von der Schulenburg. "Experiences of COPD patients with existing smoking cessation programs and their preferences for improvement - a qualitative analysis." Tobacco Induced Diseases 14, (August 24, 2016): 1-12. Academic Search Complete, EBSCOhost (accessed May 14, 2018).

This article focused on COPD patients’ experiences with existing smoking cessation programs and evaluated their preferences for the improvement of the programs. The article emphasizes that motivation is a necessity for long-term smoking cessation, and needed for designing smoking cessation programs. The author also states that smoking is a major risk factor for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). One key element is the high price of pharmaceuticals should be addressed through policy changes to increase the patients’ motivation to quit smoking.

This article notes that Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is, at present, the third leading cause of mortality worldwide. The authors suggest that it is a preventable disease and is often misdiagnosed and mistreated. It impacts the quality of life for patients living with the disease. COPD care is fragmented in the United States, with a high level of responsibility placed on patients and their primary care physicians. The definition of early COPD is complicated by the issues relating to the definition of COPD itself and, more importantly, to the heterogeneity of its natural history. The COPD National Action Plan was introduced in 2017, and this article suggests that it is time to make COPD care a public health priority.

The article emphasis on there is no known cure for COPD. The disease discussed in this article often coexist and with appropriate interventions and drug treatment can minimize the impact of the disease and improve the lives of patients.
