Ecosystem is the means which defines us the mechanism adopted via Nature to perform its functions. Ecosystem is composed of two types of components that are termed as abiotic and biotic. In abiotic components inclusion of non-living substances is done while in biotic components, we might include living organisms.

For instance; soil, radiations etc. would be kept in the category of abiotic components whereas, plants, animals will be termed as biotic components. All such components might be called related with each other in context of transfer of stuff and energy. Usually, there could be observed a balanced relationship among all of these but, such equilibrium could be destroyed via man made activities.

To understand it clearly, 'Lake Tahoe Ecosystem' might be considered here which could get damaged up to such extent that U.S.A government has to include it in the group of such ecosystems that need appropriate planning as well as organization to be saved further.

To solve the purpose 'Tahoe Regional Planning Agency' (TRPA) came into existence that is also called as, a bi-state contract which was done via California and Nevada with the sole purpose of protection of this ecosystem.

In fact, this well-known water body of United States has always remained as one out of the favorite tourist spots. The reasons behind might be its natural attractiveness and wealthy biodiversity (plants and animals). It is a grand source of clean water and is surrounded via such environment which consists of suitable temperature and rainfall (1400 mm. per annum).

Therefore, rich flora can be observed in this area. For instance: Snow Plant, Sugar Pine, Yellow Cress may be found here. While in fauna, Northern Goshawk, Yellow-Bellied Marmot and Mountain Yellow-legged Frog could be seen at this place. In addition to vegetation and animals, minerals deposits such as; silver could also be found at this point.

All such factors may be called responsible for attraction of human beings towards this lake and sightseeing, manufacturing as well as withdrawal (to find out minerals) actions have been initiated here. Consequently, the bright water of the lake turned into dull one, and the region got warm owing to the flaming of fossil fuels. In addition, because of gathering of chemicals such as; Nitrates and Phosphates, eutrophication also began in the water.

In consequence of such factors, the lake's life could get threatened seriously. Moreover, because of; manufacturing activities, removal of forests as well as mining organisms present in the area also got affected in an adverse mode that ultimately led to declination in bio-diversity. For example; there are several fish species in this lake which have been kept in the category of 'protected' but, their population also declined here. According to environmentalists, the reason behind it is reduction in the population of zooplanktons that are taken via fishes as their food.

From above, it could be understood clearly how reduction in
