Internal Transport

Introduction:

Water plays an important role in the process of photosynthesis. It is obtained by the absorption of the root hairs from the surrounding soil then transports it via the xylem to the different basic organs of the plant (roots, stems and leaves). It then exits the plant through the stomata of the leaves as water vapor in a process called transpiration or through the hydathodes as liquid water in a process called guttation. The surface area of the leaves, the quantity of the stomata and the temperature plays a role in the rate of transpiration of the plant which is directly proportional to the "pull" of water from the roots.

Objective:

At the end of this exercise, the students will be able to:

1. Trace the pathway of water in plants

2. Show the effect of stomatal distribution on the rate of water transport

3. Determine the tissues involve in the translocation of food.

Analysis of Data:

A general overview from the tabulated data shows that there is a gradual depletion on the amount of water in the burette from 13.0 ml of Wednesday (01/30/13) to 18.4 ml of Friday (02/01/13) it lost a total of 5.4 ml in three days factors that may affect this fast water uptake would be the quantity of the leaves available in the plant and it's wide
