Objectives/Goals

Describe what your lab group was investigating

  1. Our goals for the lab include: getting the variables of the experiment correct and making our timing as accurate as possible
  2. The purpose of the Lab was to determine the time of a complete swing of a pendulum while keeping the independent variables, the length, the mass, and the angle, constant. And also to figure out which independent variable would have the highest impact.

Hypothesis

The higher and heavier and object is the faster it will fall. Therefore, I predict that if the mass and angle are increased then the time of a complete swing will decrease.

Procedure

First of all, we adjusted our first two independent constant variables which were the angle and the length. For each trial we found the average time while also changing the mass. Through this we found out that changing the mass did not change the overall time per swing in the pendulum.

Secondly, we turned the mass and angle into the constant variables while progressively changing the length of the rope. We averaged the time per swing for all three trials and found out that the length of the rope truly does impact the overall time per swing.

Finally, we changed the mass and the length and turned them into the constant variable in which the angle will be the one being altered. While averaging the time per swing for all three trials we found that the angle didn’t have as much of an impact as the length had.
