What values are there in protecting special ecosystems?

Every ecosystem provides special kind of service to the environments in that particular area. Every day we are exposed to all kind of ecosystem. It is all around us, wherever you go, you will come across many different ecosystems, such as freshwater ecosystem, forest ecosystem and so on. Ecosystem simply means the interactions between living things and non-living things working together as a unit. Every living thing relies on ecosystem for survival.

Without a properly functioning ecosystem, there is nearly impossible for the continuation of plant and animal in each ecosystem. Every living things or organisms depend on each other for survival and this what we called the circle of life. The value gain from protecting special ecosystem is that it provides us the very basic needs such as water, food and shelter. Plants are very important living things. It is a food source for both humans and animals and besides that it provide oxygen for the environment. Most of the lands are home to all the plant and animals species, so as the land is converted into farmland many species lost their habitat and doomed to extinction.

Other than that, a special ecosystem helps to stabilize the climate especially the rainforests ecosystem. It helps to absorb the carbon dioxide from the atmosphere from preventing it to cause a change in climate through global warming. Furthermore, rainforests ecosystem helps to moderate the local temperature and creating rainfall. Therefore, we as human being should be responsible to protect those special ecosystems to ensure there is a continuance of life or an organism.

Should society bear the cost of removing land from cultivation and replanting it to prairie or temperate forest?

According to the article given, all the land that can be used for agriculture has already been converted to that use. During the process, most of the ecosystems have been destroyed and been replaced by more simple ecosystems which is the agriculture ecosystem. Throughout the years, the society already gained so much profit from it. We as humans, who are selfish and who only think about profit in mind most of the time, tend to ignore all that is happening around us and only focus on how much benefits or profits we could able to gain and have neglected the importance of ecosystem. Some people may not think that it is important to save the different kind of ecosystems but in fact it is. Like I mentioned earlier, all organisms are living together and relying on each other to survive included human beings.
