The first negative effect of rapid economic progress on environment is air pollution. With the development of economy, an increasing number of chemical plants and electronic industries have been appeared. As a result, massive fossil fuels like coal have been consumed accompanied by a large amount of carbon dioxide and other waste gases emission, which dose harm to the atmosphere. For example, the industry sector in Tunisia increases from 20% to 28.3% during its sustainable growth, and the pollutant emissions experience a sharp upward trend which makes the Tunisian government regard the air pollution management as a national priority (Fodha, 2009; Zaghdoud, 2009). Moreover, according to Blazey (2007), the migration to urban area boosted by the economic growth also should also take the blame for the atmospheric pollution. Because the more people move to the cities, the more heavy factories are operated. For instance, after China’s open policy in1978, a large amount number of people flood into urban area improving the productivity of factories which rely on fossil fuels. Therefore, the low-quality air in China becomes worse (Blazey, 2007).

The low-quality water is another environmental problem because of the rapid economic growth. Industrialization and urbanization are the inevitable and notable results of economic development. And owners of the plants tend to start their business around the rivers and lake basins because it is convenient to get access to water source and dispose their waste water without proper infrastructure to clean water. Thus, sever water pollution is the clear outcome (Juma et al, 2007; Ruibin et al, 2012). For example, the contamination of Taihu Lake in China stems from the rubbish and waste water of the near plants. In addition, Juma et al (2007) states that the pollution resulted from increased factories and automobiles leads to more emissions of waste gases which can be the reason of acid rainfall. In this way, water sources just like lakes and seas cannot escape from being polluted.
