Characteristics and Environments of a Human Service Organization Paper

There are many different types of agencies available to those who need help. There are nonprofit organizations, group sessions, inpatient facilities, etc. Where a person chooses to go is their choice (most of the time), and choosing a facility and/or organization is difficult unless you know some details about it.

I chose a nonprofit organization that I was familiar with from Pennsylvania, but is also well known here in Ohio. I chose Catholic Social services. The vision statement for Catholic Social Services is "Inspired by God's love and teachings, Catholic Social Services of the Miami Valley (CSSMV) builds stronger futures for individuals and families of all faiths. The vision statement is equally important as the mission statement of the organization. The mission statement is Catholic Social Services of the Miami Valley strengthens individuals and families in need through actions of faith, service and charity (cssmv.org)."

Many people believe that this organization is an organization for only Catholic residents in the area, and this is not true. The organization works with anyone despite their religion, race, gender, ethnicity etc. This is something that most people don't know, although the organization posts this in many different places, as well as other organizations referring people to them regardless of their religion.

There are many different types of services available to the community through Catholic Social Services. Some of those services are: adoption, counseling, food pantry, day care, pregnancy, parenting, refugee resettlement, senior, senior passport, supervised visitation, teen, and education/training. These services are available to everyone, whether they have insurance or not. When researching about the different programs, I learned that all are different, some you need to sign up for, and others you can go in whenever you want.

The organization sees many different types of people. They do have social workers there that specialize in just children. Depression, anxiety, drug and alcohol abuse, divorce, and family problems are the issues that seem to be dealt with on a normal basis. Everyone hurts and whether they choose to go in before it gets to be too much to deal with or when they are at wits ends, is always up in the air.

The organization strives to make sure that everyone gets the help that they need whether they are financially stable and have insurance, or if they are in a financial hardship and have very low finances. The client fees are based on income if the client does not have insurance. They base the fees on a sliding scale that could be as little as $10 and as high as $75. So nobody should go without the care that they need when the services are available to them at such little cost.

As stated previously making sure that everyone gets help is extremely important to the organization. The organization is very focused on helping everybody in the community that they can. Having a positive influence on the community is extremely important. If the organization does not show that they are there to help people in need, and that they are willing
