Graves' Disease

My over all view point on this material presented, was wonderful especially where the

symptoms were presented. I believe the symptoms descriptions were on target due to my

experience when I compare them. I have spent a lot of time asking myself what did I do to

contact this disease and where did it come from, but with this research many of questions were

answered I hope this will be the same for you, Liz. I am able now to go on with some clarity and

peace of mind. My endocrinologist told me sometimes I could check my tremors by placing a

leaflet in the palm of my hand and watch for the shakings and usually if it increased too much I

would call for quick appointment instead of waiting. My advice to you; make sure you do not over look any symptoms always keep take your medications as needed, keep up with your

endocrinologist and also your regular physician.

Graves Disease can be a roller coaster experience because it affects the immune system you

become drain physically and emotionally but there is hope when we follow through with the

guidelines our endocrinologist set for us. We also see some of the famous people like Oprah

Winfrey and Barbara Bush just to name a few who have had this disease and are still able to

maintain a functional and independent life style. I am not sure what stage you are in but let me just reiterate; for treatment the purpose is to control the over activity of the thyroid gland, also beta-blockers such as propranolol are used to treat symptoms for rapid heart, sweating and anxiety until the hyperthyroidism is controlled with surgery, radioactive iodine or

antithyroid medications. Without treatment Graves disease can lead to heart problems, weak and brittle bones and severe form of thyroid storm in which death rate is about 20%

Once you decide on your option you can begin your road to

recovery.
