Organizational Behavior

Introduction

Cameron Mechanical & Automation is a very successful internet based company. After receiving the surveys back from the employees, there was some concerns. The company is aware of the mistrust feelings between the employees and the managers. With the problems that are occurring, I was asked to research some major theories of organizational behavior.

What is Organizational Behavior?

Organizational behavior studies the connections of individuals, groups, and structures the human behavior within an organization. When people interact within an organization, many elements come into play. Organizational behavior studies seek to control, to predict, and to explain these factors. Organizational behavior plays a major role in the development of an organization. It enhances the overall performance in the organization and also enhance the performance, satisfaction, and commitment of individuals and groups. (Boundless, 2015)

Theories of Organizational Behavior

A business that share the same ideas and goals is formed from a chain of command positions as well as some specialized departments. If a business doesn’t have a chain of command, the business couldn’t function properly. For example, if a group wanted to achieve a goal, but everyone in the group wanted to be the leader, the group will find themselves having constant conflicts and will be unable to achieve anything successfully. For a business to operate successfully, there needs to be some type of organizational behavior. The one’s I think that are important are scientific management, the systems approach, and the contingency approach. The scientific management also known as the procedure of entrusting the right person and having the right tools and equipment to do the job efficiently. This theory was developing by Fredrick W. Taylor, which his motto was “one best way”. His opinion was that if a common plan of action was developed for each job duty, a business can maximize their production results. An example of scientific management before it’s applied, if a company hires six men to clean an area after it has been demolish and each one of the men pick up one piece of wood at a time and put it in the trash bin, it would take the workers three days to clear the job. If scientific management was applied, instead of hiring six men, the company can hire two men, one who could operate a backhoe and the other as a guide on the ground. With the right type of equipment, these two men could clear the site before nightfall. (Aliano, 2009)

The systems approach theory is where all the departments in the business pull their own weight. They have to make sure that each department can function properly and each department success relates to the other departments. An example, in the car dealership, the salesperson sells the cars, the financing department has to process the loans and the funding sources. If the salesperson can’t sell a car, then
