At the beginning of the 21st century, the growing amount of advertising has brought more influence on consumers than ever before. Many people claim that the power of advertising affects people's habits of consumption. In my opinion, although I partly agree with the point of view, I believe that most consumers have enough abilities to make the right choices by themselves.

It is generally acknowledged that one of the major factors which contributes to people purchasing some specific goods, especially some new products is to present the repetitive advertisements to the public. However, some customers do not have a maturity to distinguish and realize the difference between their desire and essential needs. For example, there are numbers of teenagers using I-phone on the street due to the widely spread advertisements which would make them look more fashionable to their friends. However, it seems unnecessary for someone who merely wants to listen to music and surf the web to have an expensive I-phone.

On the other hand, there are others who believe that advertising influences people's judgments which have a limited effect and those other factors like giving extra information and creative ideas are more significant. In addition, people are rarely totally passive. They interpret and give meaning to what they see, based on their own values and experiences. Most of them have different preferences and they make choices which suit themselves.

To sum up, there are arguments both and against a strong influence of advertising on consumer's choices. Nevertheless, I think that most people can consider what kind of goods are really needed, as well as use advertising to make suitable choice
