The Debate About the Value of Information Systems Is Unending

I disagree with Nicholas G. Carr that Information System strategic importance has diminished. Not, to mentioned he contradicts himself in his own article. For example, Car states that "even with the recent sluggishness in technology spending, business around the world continue to spend well over $2 trillion a year on IT. Two trillion dollars does matters in my opinion. It matters if you are stockholder and own stock in Microsoft. It matters to the cellular phone companies who are constantly, planning strategically competitive with other mobile phone companies in addition to keeping customer loyalty. Its matter to the cable companies because now the cellular phone companies want you to watch television on the internet. It matters if you are a sales person at Oracle and need to do a presentation on PeopleSoft at medium to small business. Again it matter anytime you plan on convincing your company to invest in an ERP system to streamline their business processes when you already known in a few years it have to be upgraded. And I can go on and on. Investing in information system is just as important as a business paying taxes or payroll. Data will always have to be sorted, analysis, stored, and secured.
