Write in one paragraph gist of each of the Ethical Theories.

Some of the ethical theories are explained as follows:

  • Scholastic Philosophy:

It is basically deals by asking a very basic question about the nature of human thought, the nature of the universe, and the connections between them.  It is a method where practical judgment of reason deciding an individual act as good and to be followed or as evil.

  • Kantian ethics:

This theory states that we are morally obliged to act in accordance with a certain set of principles and rules regardless of the outcome. He believes that person choices should have nothing to do with the desired outcome but instead mankind simply goes about doing well because it is morally correct.

  • The Machiavellian principle:

Machiavelli suggests that people will have to do something not necessarily good to attain something good; the leader should be prepared to do evil when necessary to gain power. It is more focused on the qualities of political ruler and highlighted policy based on retaining power rather than pursuing ideals.

  • Social Contract theory of Hobbes:

This theory states that person’s moral or political obligation are dependent upon a contract or agreement among them to form the society in which they live. This theory states that person ethical behavior is determined by the laws of the nation or society.

  • Utilitarianism of Jeremy Bentham and John Stuart Mill:

It states that an act is considered moral if it results in good consequences, otherwise it is immoral. An act is good if it gives good results, if it works, if it makes you successful, and it makes you attain your purpose; otherwise it is bad.
