Write at least a two page report on a genetic disorder. Report must be typed, double spaced and you must use Times New Roman 12pt font. You must have a cover page:

One inch margins on all sides must be used. One space after periods must be used. An introduction and conclusion must be included. Grammar, spelling, punctuation and overall writing ability will be part of the grading process. You must have at least three sources from different internet sites, books, magazines, etc. References must be cited correctly (APA Format 6th edition) on a separate sheet (same font applies for references). In your conclusion you must include a reflection and include your personal thoughts on the disease, share your thoughts, feelings, hopes, and/or attitudes about what you have learned. Due date: MAY 13, 2011, NO LATE PAPERS ACCEPTED

Information to include in your paper:

1. Name of your disorder, as well as alternative names.

2. A history of your disorder, i.e., who discovered it, where was it first discovered, when was it

first documented, etc.

3. How common is the disease? What proportion of the population (or specific group of people)

is affected? Does it affect males and females differently? How many new individuals are

diagnosed with the disease each year?

4. Does the disease present itself congenitally or does it exhibit delayed onset?

5. What symptoms are associated with the disease (be as specific as possible here)?

6. Can screening or other diagnostic tools be utilized to detect the disease? If so, describe the

techniques utilized.

7. Is the disease fatal? If so, what is the median age of survival? If not, what treatments are

available?

8. What specific anatomical and/or physiological characteristics are associated with the disease?

9. Is the disease progressive, i.e., does it worsen as one ages?

10. What services/support groups/gene therapy are available for persons suffering from the

disease?

11. What research is being done on the disorder? Where? By whom? What is the prognosis?
