Barriers to Effective Communication Paper

Communication is a continual process, that we exchange verbally or non-verbally, as we utilize on a day to day basis, in which an individual or in other words the sender communicates through to another individual who is the receiver. The message of information is a main idea in which it is being communicated and the message needs to be put into words clearly. When communication gets a desired response from the receiver of the message, communication is well thought-out to be effective. Making sure the receiver of information understands what the sender is talking about, asking questions about the message that he or she has received and providing feedback. If the receiver is having trouble communicating, the sender has got to take into consideration the accent of the receiver and education level might be the barriers to his or her ways of communicating.

Listening is an act with the intention of a lot of individuals does not give a second thought about. To be an excellent listener he or she needs to remove themselves from their thoughts, and focus on what is being said. All the attention needs to be on the sender of the information. Try to see things from the sender's point of view and formulate opinions based on what is being heard, not on personal biases. He or she can listen without hearing. According to Golden, good listeners are superior communicators because they can understand the importance of clearly conveying a message and know that if the message is hard to interpret, the chances are misunderstandings are great (2009).

Formal channels of communication within the criminal justice field would consist of reports as well as fact in which law enforcement bureaucrats, as well as many others look for throughout the time of an investigation. Investigative reports are taken by law enforcement, who will write down the report and then turn it into the next individual who is in the chain of command, who will look over the report and do further investigations if seen as necessary.

Informal channels would consist of gossip or unfounded information which frequently includes personal opinion as well as facts nevertheless. Within the criminal justice field, personal opinion does not count for anything and can harm a case becoming too lengthy as well as factual evidence being looked over.
