You awaken by your clock radio and you can listen to your favorite radio station. The Federal Communications Commission plays an important role in the telecommunications arena and does affect daily lives The FCC is a subsidiary of the Executive Branch; they report directly to the president. FCC is in charge of regulating all non-federal government use of the radio spectrum including television broadcasting, and all interstate telecommunications such as wire, satellite and cable, as well as all international communications that originate or terminate in the United States. Anytime you tune into a radio or TV station and don't hear two crossed signals or keening interference, it's because of the FCCs regulation of radio frequencies. The FCC can govern the radio waves and television waves because these forms of media can potentially violate some aspects of the freedom of speech. The first amendment gives individuals the right to the freedom of speech, but like every right protected in the amendments, there are limits. Since the freedom of speech is not absolute, there must be some governing body that monitors that right. Thus, the FCC regulates and monitors the use of radio and television in carrying out messages that fall under the freedom of speech. However, in some cases that freedom is violated and must be dealt with, and in our country, the government is responsible for overlooking and punishing those types of situations. Individuals are breathing freely. This is due in part to government's clean air laws that reduce the air pollution that would otherwise greatly worsen people's condition Federal and state passed the original Clean Air Act in 1963, which established funding for the study and the cleanup of air pollution. Then Congress passed a much stronger Clean Air Act in 1970. The Clean Air Act is a federal law covering the entire country. Representatives work with companies to reduce air pollution. They also review and approve permit applications for industries or chemical processes. States have to develop State Implementation Plans (SIPs) that outline how the state will control air pollution under the Clean Air Act. Local government takes care of transporting waste, treating it, and disposing of it in an environmentally responsible manner. Proper waste management covers all aspects of the disposal or re-cycling of materials that humans consider useless. Human waste is only one aspect. Industrial, automotive, hazardous, medical, chemical and even radioactive waste must all be considered. This is especially important in urban areas when the concentration of people is the largest. This is necessary to protect public health and the environment. It also keeps us from burying ourselves in our own waste.
