This opportunity was hard to come by, the firsthand experience equipped myself to adapt the future workplace. In this essay, I am going to write about what I have experienced and reflected in these 3 weeks, including the overall learning process, how to apply learnt skills in workplace, how to overcome challenges and difficulties, and figured out my strengths and weaknesses.

From the first day to the last day in QEH, my determination for being a nurse become more unswerving. I was allocated to general medical ward, which taken care the patients with renal cases. In the first day in QEH, everything were new to me since that was the first time for me to practice in ward. In the beginning, there were countless worries inside my mind. For example, I had to get familiar with the working routine and environment as fast as possible so that I can work more efficiently; I also had to develop effective communication skills with the staffs in order to avoid repeated practices. When the time passed, the worries graduated away because the more practices I made, the more confident I built up.

Infection control is one of the essential skills in healthcare areas. There are some MRSA patients in our ward,

When I was working in QEH, there were different kinds of challenges and difficulties. To patients, To staffs, different staffs had their own processing ways and methods, it brought out misunderstandings between me and the staffs. To myself, the ward had packed schedules every day. The staffs allocated many practices to me in a single time and I found hard to manage at the same time, so that there were some practices were missed. To overcome the difficulties, I jotted down every practices

During the internship, I have found my strengths and weaknesses. Since I worked for a nursing home in the last summer holiday; the basic clinical skills such as changing napkin, oral feeding and measuring vital signs which I were already acquainted with. I was confident to do well. Also, I had developed an effective communication skills with others, especially with the elderly. I understood what they needed; sometimes I can know through their facial expressions. On the other hand, my working efficiency can be enhanced. Working efficiency is in a hustling environment, because low efficiency could hinder the progress of routine. Delayed routines has to be avoided in ward, it seems not a matter, but it may affect the patients. To improve my weakness, I should do more practices because practice makes perfect.

There are many staffs asked me:" Do you feel hard about the placement?" I answered: "Absolutely yes." The pressure came from the ward is not only the workload, but also the responsibility for handling a life. However, I think it was worthy; it also proved my effort and determination. Knowledge, skills and empathy are the essential qualities for delivering holistic and compassionate care to clients, I have gained these qualities during the placement. I believed that to strengthen my strengths and improve my weaknesses in order to be a holistic nurse.
