Communication Channel Scenarios

There are three scenarios provided for this assignment, each presents situations, requiring the delivery of information to other individuals. The purpose of this paper is to determine best communication channel for delivering the information in each scenario and supporting why it is that this is the best method.

The first scenario is that of a marketing manager for a new beverage that has done very well has been asked by the Vice President of Operations to develop a strategy to take the beverage global. The manager has to take the product to his team and provide the details and get started on this project as soon as possible. They have a week to develop the strategy. For this scenario, the best method of communication would be face to face. It provides the manager with an opportunity to ensure that team members' verbal and nonverbal communication agree. "The advantage of oral communication is speed and feedback" (Robbins & Judge, 2011, p. 346). When time is of the essence face-to-face is the most effective means of communication. E-mail will provide the vice president with written documentation of the proposed strategy outlining the necessary actions to make the proposal a reality. It is also a retrievable reference at a later date and time if needed. The vice president may also provide written authorization to move forward or indicate changes they want made. Again this channel of communication provides a point of reference at a later time if needed.

In this second scenario, a Travel agency's computer login and password for the application used by the whole company no longer work. In this scenario the best channel of communication would be telecommunication. The company's IT department is offsite, and they should be able to reset the systems password and login remotely and provide the information to the manager. The manager in turn may log on with the information provided to ensure that it is working properly keeping IT on the phone to address any problems that arise, preventing further delay of productivity. To get this information out to the employees the best channel of communication would be a memo as this form of written communication and acts as source of reference at a later time if needed and may be put through the shredder for security purposes.

Finally in the third scenario, the owner of a small editing company has to let six of the company's 10 employees go because of budget cuts. The manager has to provide notice about the upcoming cuts to
