A Sport of It's Own

Fans of basketball and wrestling need to realize that the sport of wrestling is much harder than basketball not only physically, but mentally as well. Both sports are popular all over the world and are also competed as an event during every Summer Olympic Games. The sports both require you to be very athletic to compete at any level wether it be in grade school or college but wrestling is not a team sport unlike basketball. This alone shows that wrestling demands far more self discipline and motivation because you have no other team mates to rely on other than yourself. Basketball is played with 5 men or women on a team that each play a position that has a specific role in order to work efficiently together to score points. Basketball and wrestling both take a physical toll on the bodies of the competitors but there is a far greater risk of injury during a wrestling match than a basketball game. This is because of the different rules each sport has. Wrestling is a brutal combat sport that allows competitors to do whatever it takes to pin each other's shoulders to the mat wether it be to throw or slam your opponent to the ground which makes a higher risk of injuries such as fractures to bones, ligament damage, and even concussions. Basketball on the other hand is not a combat sport and has more rules that protect players from injuries that are more common in wrestling. To be able to compete in any sport takes lots of cardiovascular, muscle, and mental strength but unlike wrestling, basketball does not allow muscle strength to be a major factor when competing at any level. To completely be able to control another person for a whole 7 minutes in a wrestling match requires lots of muscle strength along with mental and physical endurance while basketball mainly focuses on competitor's cardio and less on muscle endurance. These two sports are the most well known and respected sports not only in the United States, but all over the World as well. Every athlete knows that to be able to compete in these sports require lots of focusness and energy but to be a wrestler requires an amount of hard work and dedication that exceeds all other sports in the World.
