Gone With the Wind is a timeless country classic about a spoiled southern girl that has almost everything that she wants. She can deal with a nation at war against itself, Atlanta being burned down and destruction occurring all around her, the Union army taking everything from her beloved city Tara, and the carpetbaggers that come after the war. But she cannot deal with the fact the one she loves won't marry her, but his cousin Melanie. She can get every man to fall head over heels for her and follow her everywhere, except for the one she actually cares for. Yes, Scarlett O'Hara is quite an interesting lady. After hearing word of Ashley Wilkes, the man she loves's engagement to Melanie Hamilton, she can't even believe it. She believes that he only truly loves herself. She arrives at his Twelve-Oaks plantation Barbeque the next day, and makes every man there just about fall in love with her. While all the ladies are taking their naps, she sneaks downstairs to get a chance to talk to Ashley. She pulls him into a library, and declares her deep love for him. And he tells her that he can't marry her, because their nothing alike, but he and Melanie are. After he walks out on Scarlett, Rhett Butler arises from his hiding space behind the sofa, and she becomes angered that he did not make his presence known. Later, after seeing a passionate kiss between Ashley and Melanie, she's in major shock. But right then, Scarlett receives a marriage proposal and accepts, just to make Ashley jealous. Her plan miserably fails, and Charles Hamilton dies of pneumonia, following an attack of measles in a war training camp before even going to war. She goes to live in Atlanta with Melanie to help take care of her as she awaits the birth of her first baby. At the Monster Bazaar, a charity ball in Atlanta, Rhett Butler bids $150 on an opening dance with Scarlett, and is told since she is in mourning she cannot dance. But rebelliously, Scarlett accepts. Around Christmas time, Ashley returns home, and Melanie gives him a jacket she made by herself, as his Christmas present. Scarlett also gives him a hand made sash. And once again, he has to leave back to war. Soon after, it is announced that Atlanta is falling to General Sherman's Army, and everyone is panicking, trying to get out of the city. After returning back to the house, Scarlett discovers that Melanie is ready to have her baby. Prissy, a slave of theirs, has no idea how to give birth to a baby, so Scarlett is stuck figuring out how to do it herself. After the birth of a baby boy, Scarlett send Prissy to the Red Horse Saloon to find Rhett and ask for help getting out of Atlanta. So he steals a horse, and in a big scene while Atlanta is being burned down, gets them out on the last safe road the Yankees hadn't taken over yet. Rhett leaves Scarlett, Melanie, the baby, and Prissy to go and join the army, leaving them on the road toward Tara. Finally reaching Tara, after overcoming many hardships and hunger and thirst, they see it wasn't burned
