SUBJECT: Evaluation of Staffing Strategy

DATE: October 1, 2012

For an organization to create a staffing strategy that will reach their goals, the organization must allocate any resources that may have a competitive advantage against other organizations (Noe, Hollenbeck, Gerhart & Wright, 2008). After looking over the propose plan to hire 35 qualified technicians to work in the new cardiovascular unit in the organization, I feel that the current staffing strategy is not sufficient enough to fulfill the organizational goals at New Health Medical Systems. The current strategic strategy that has been presented to me states that there is a lack of skilled technicians in the local area, which seems to be a problem. These skilled technicians in the local area that could work in the new cardiovascular unit at New Health Medical Systems are already employed at other healthcare organizations in the area and they are currently not seeking a new job position at any other organizations. When it comes to staffing an organization, it is absolutely critical to the success of every company. To be competitive in today's economy, organizations need the best people to create ideas and execute them for the organization to reach goals (Heneman & Judge, 2009).

The staffing strategy does align with the organization's new strategic direction but there needs to be changes made to the strategy that will attract candidates to apply for the position. The four alternatives that were recommended were a good start but more offers need to added and some changes need to be made. The first alternative recommended was placing advertisements in the local newspaper. This is a good idea but if you are looking for skilled technicians fill these positions, and then you need to expand the advertisement in the newspaper to say that you are looking for skilled technicians worldwide and offer the qualified candidate a job relocation package that will take care of all of their needs. Sometimes if a job offers great benefits, then a person doesn't mind relocating for that job position.

The second alternative recommended is contacting staffing agencies that specialize in placing technicians into health care facilities. This recommendation is a good idea because staffing agencies are there to help recruit employees as well as interview qualified candidates, test their skills and knowledge, and perform reference/background checks on employees before they are hired. The third alternative recommended in the strategy is organizing a job fair and invite local professions to attend. The job fair is a good idea but just inviting only local professionals to attend is not a good idea.
