The articles of confederation had a few problems that were fixed in the constitution of the US. Three of these problems are the way taxes were taken, foreign affairs and trade, and how votes were taken in the colonies.

At first, taxes were only given to the state and not the national government. To this effect, an army or navy of any kind could not be formed. Also, the colonies could not pay back their debt to other countries like Britain. The bigger and more prosperous states had the control over the rest of the states. New York and Virginia were at the top of the list of being rich. They did not want to share their money or pay for anything they did not have to pay for. This problem had to be fixed in the Constitution. It was fixed by giving the national government the power to tax people in all states to one big tax. It gave the government a chance to build an army and navy for the future country.

Next, foreign affairs and trade were not in the best of shape. Other countries were placing restrictions on the colonies' goods because of the debt they had. Also, the lack of a navy left the ships more susceptible to getting raided by pirates. Then, the colonies could not protect themselves because they did not have an army. They also could not enforce the laws to keep themselves safe like the Treaty of Paris. It was fixed by giving the national government the power to use taxes to create and build an army and navy. Then, the laws were also enforced by the judicial court system.

Finally, the votes that colonies give were completely messed up. In the Articles, votes had to be unanimous to amend a law. All of the colonies will never completely agree on a subject like abolishing slavery. Also, the number of representatives for each of the states did not match the population of the state. Each state only had one representative. Now, Alabama has seven representatives, New York has 29, and Massachusetts has ten. This problem was fixed by giving a certain number of representatives to each state based on their population.

By fixing only a few problems in the Articles of Confederation, we make the government easier to handle and make it more convenient for the states to have a fair amount of representatives in the government. The government can now use the states' taxes to create an army and navy to protect the country. The states' taxes are now given to the government to pay off the country's debt to other countries and build up the army and navy. The Constitution is way better than the Articles of Confederation because of these problems. Now, we are the most powerful country in the world.
