The male class A uniform

Army regulation 670-1 covers the wear and appearance of the army uniforms. This

regulation elaborates every uniform worn in the United States Army. This instruction

has strict guidelines that break down the class A uniform into subsections and in detail,

which include the shoes, pants, jacket, socks, etc. The regulation educates the soldiers on

what articles should be worn together and proper fit. It also describes the placement of

awards, decorations, and appurtenances.

The shoes are made from an approved specification or pattern, or from a similar commercial

design and are made of leather, poromeric, or patent leather. The shoe is a dress tie-oxford style,

with at least three eyelets and a closed toe and heel, with the heel no higher than 2 inches (Army

Publishing 25). The shoe is plain, with no designs in the shoe material (Army

Publishing 25). The socks are of an approved specification or commercial design. The black

dress socks are worn with the black oxford shoes. The socks are calf-length, black polyester and

nylon (36).

Trousers or pants should not fit tightly; and personnel must keep uniforms clean and

serviceable and press them as necessary. They should be worn with the lower edge of the

waistband at the top of the hipbone, plus or minus one half inch. The front crease of the trousers

will reach the top of the instep, touching the top of the shoe at the shoelaces. They will be cut on

a diagonal line to reach a point approximately midway between the top of the heel and the top of

the shoe in the back. The trousers may have a slight break or crease in the front (Marlow White

50). The belt is black cotton web or black woven elastic, with a brass tip. The men's belt is 1 ΒΌ

inches wide. The brass tip belt is worn only with the brass buckle. It is worn so that the tipped end

passes through the buckle to the wearer's left for males. The tipped end will extend beyond the

end of the buckle so that only the brass tip is visible (United States Army 44).

The coat is a single-breasted, peak-lapel, four-button coat extending below the crotch, fitting

easily over the chest and shoulders, with a slight draped effect in the front and back. The coat is

fitted slightly at the waist, conforming to the body shape without tightness and with no prominent

flare. The sleeve length will be 1 inch below the bottom of the wrist bone (55). The long sleeve

shirt is a 65/35 polyester and cotton broadcloth shirt, AG shade 415. It is a dress type with

shoulder loops, a seven button front, and two pleated pockets with button down flaps. The

sleeves on the long sleeve shirt will extend to the center of the wrist bone (Army Publishing 38).

There are a lot of accessories to the uniform, a lot of them will be covered in the next few

paragraphs but not everything. Further
