There are two types of people in this world: achievers and non-achievers. Achievers make plans for the future that cannot end anywhere but with success. Whereas non-achievers live most of their lives carefree just wondering if they'll make it to the next day. Sad to say, the African-American community has fallen to a majority basis of non-achievers. But why is this you may ask? These people have been consumed by Ghetto Nihilism, rejection of organizations created to better black communities. Due to the history of the African migration, a decrease in the church influences among the youth, and even some discriminating against others for wanting to leave the ghetto, the African-American culture is at a crisis point.

The influence of the church also has a large effect on the African-American communities. Keeping the youth, along with the elders in church will keep criminals off the streets and families more stable. Less than 40% of black children live in two parent homes, and gang violence is at quite a high. The "ghetto" areas of Detroit have lost more than 20% of their population.

Finally, African-Americans of the present-day aren't choosing the best values to live by. For example, according to Carl Ellis, an achiever lives by "hard work yields getting ahead", constantly planning for their future. Whereas a non-achiever, such as a criminal, bases their values off of "getting over by any means." It's obvious one has a better mind set, yet is discriminated against for wanting to do better. When a person in a black rural community speaks proper, or dresses a certain way, they are picked on by being called "white." In my opinion, that's absolutely insane. A person trying to leave the ghetto should be praised. Overall, the African-American communities need to come together before our culture comes to a complete standstill.
