Nontraditional ways in which managers can motivate employees.

In order to have productive environment across organization, it’s an essential to have employee motivated. It’s an organization move to maintain conducive environment to boost employee morale, however sometimes most supportive environment appears to be highly challenging.

Essentially, parameters at workplace such as Job satisfaction, job security, benefits, compensation and retirement benefits are deciding factors for an employee motivation. There are several ways to create a conducive environment, help organization for motivated employee. Broad classification is direct (compensation) and Non-cash incentives.

Following are the nontraditional way in which managers can motivate employees:

  1. Opportunity for learning and development: It has been observed that employees are highly motivated at the beginning of their career. They are very much keen to learn new skills and acquire the knowledge. Organization need to allow employee to provide an exposure in cross functional areas which would be helpful for them to learn and understand actual happening.  
  2. Recognition of performance: Appreciation of work of an employee is proven way to boost employee morale up all the time. Rewards and recognition also facilitate to retain brain in an organization for long. If employee don’t get a recognition of work, it leads to create a feeling that other employees are more valued than them. Make them feel that their work is valued by leaders and managers.
  3. Organization’s interest in future path of employee career:  Employees are more interested in what company is planning for his future. Well-developed career path for an employee is vital in terms of maintain motivation for work in employee.
  4. Let employee take the wheel: Clear communication of his role and responsibility to generate interest in job is imperative for a manager. It helps them to develop skills and acquire new knowledge.
  5. Compensation and Benefits: compensation and benefit keep employees engaged and feeling good paid for a job well done. 
  6. Understand and ask employee for their motivation factor. Provide a reason to be associated with the company.

Apart from direct compensation, above ways are extremely useful to boost the morale up for an employee.
