Oliver Cromwell

Hi I am Oliver Cromwell, the leader of the parliament army. I am a great leader and spokesman. After being elected king, I led England with great success for a few years. My main concern was always for the people of England. Charles the first, who was king, did not have the same concerns for the people. The parliament and I passed a series of acts against the king to persuade the people to see his wrongs. Finally, in 1642 I was granted permission to start a militia. I called my men the ironsides and I trained them well. My men did not participate in getting drunk or disorderly behavior. I believe an army must be trained well to be able to protect the people of their country. Would you put faith in a militia of men that live upright lives, or a militia that does not to protect your country? My efforts that I put into my army paid off when we won several battles against the royalists. I later took over Oxford, which was Charles' base, which led to the Scottish giving us Charles. In 1650, I defeated Scotland, bringing the Civil War to an end the following year. I restored English Sovereignty over the three commonwealths with my army behind me. I became the lord protector of Britain and in 1655 I ruled the country alone. My goal was to change everyone's opinion on Britain. I fought a couple of conflicts in the early 1650's. I did this to maintain and gain power for the over sea empire. I defeated the Dutch, and Spanish held island of Jamaica. I open up trade with other countries with Britain, by negotiating peace treaty with them. I did this also to maintain Britan's power for the people. The people and army recently gave me a chance to have the crown. I declined it being humble to myself and the people. The People might disagree with my strict rules I had in society, but really I was looking out for everyone in England. I wanted to keep them in line, and wanted to make them as respectful as I can to make England look even better. All my actions I had in my past all lead up to characteristics of a great leader. My actions always evolved around the people of England, to make them have a safe and secured life style.
