Palo Verde Beach

Some people say assume that South campus is the best place to live, but the North has a secret weapon that no one else on campus has and that’s Palo Verde Beach. PV Beach, a commonly used nickname, is surrounded by dorms of the engineering and liberal arts students in the Palo Verde dormitory. This place provides these students with an alluring location and funky design with a fresh experience, depending on the time of day, that nothing else on campus could contribute.  Since PV Beach is outside of my dorm, I’ve observed on the edge of the beach for collecting vaulable notes. As a result, Palo Verde Beach is an unique and underrated spot at Arizona State University.

For those whose colleges are Liberal Arts & Sciences and the Ira A. Fulton Engineering, Palo Verde Beach is a very convenient place to hang out or enjoy the scenery. Palo Verde Beach is located on the north side of campus on University Drive surrounded by the Palo Verde dormitories. This set up is gives a relaxing feel because of the students are able to see their friends or get help with homework quick and easily. It’s also  near the Sun Devil Stadium and Wells Fargo Arena, which is favorable for the students in the Palo Verde dorms because they always get first in line for tickets on football or basketball games and show their school spirit. All the students always gather around in groups at PV beach, decked out in maroon, black or gold, relying on what the theme is that day. Personally, this is my favorite time to be at Palo Verde Beach. The atmosphere is suffocated with a volume of school spirit, in a good way, giving off a vibe of excitement, thrill and bliss all around.   Furthermore, there is the ASU bridge, which connects the students to campus and PV beach. The bridge in my opinion is what gives PV beach its liveliness. It pours in different sorts of people who energizes the area with noise and space, while giving it a welcoming touch. The location of the Palo Verde Beach is not only an advantage for the Liberal Arts and Engineering students but also a site to see.

Palo Verde Beach has an unique shape for a “beach”; it has an egg shaped outline, that is filled with a mixture of some grass and a fair amount of dirt. A welcoming aura comes from the egg shaped, thanks to it’s huge open area.  In the grass, there are multiple silver tent holders for activities that happen often on Palo Verde Beach. There’s also about 20 palm trees line stand on the inner lines of  Palo Verde Beach. My assumptions of the palm trees being there is that they are delightful and brings out a peaceful vibe among the beach. Outside of the beach there are about four benches spread irregularly for people to wait for people or have a place to sit. A blue emergency pole is right next to a bench for safety reasons. Knowing that there’s an emergency pole right next to PV beach, it makes me feel that I can be safe in this area and if I do feel unsafe, I know there is something close to help me. Also, next to Palo Verde East and West are bike racks that are always seem to be full no matter what time of day it is including the morning.

At around 8:45 am, Palo Verde Beach has a slight rush tempo to it. Looking straight ahead, I noticed a cluster of students walking and riding their boards and bike up the ASU bridge. Most of the students are walking in groups and talking, while some are just walking independently but almost of them are constantly checking their cell phones. The attitude that this gives off is a very studious vibe. This is a great example of how important school is to people who live near PV Beach. The weather is around 85 to lower 90 degrees with no clouds in the sky, which is nice since there is close to no shade at Palo Verde Beach.  The cool weather gives people with later classes to hang out at PV Beach and casually throw around the football. Since most people are rushing to class, the noise level around Palo Verde Beach is pretty minimal, even with a few cars driving on University Drive. This steady tempo in the morning picks up around 12:00 PM midday.
