Small Business Environment

Owning your own business can be a good thing or a bad thing. Some may think that it is easy to start their own business and some may think that it is not. But if you have determination and willing to work hard you could possibly start your own business. Even though starting a small business is not easy it is possible. Not only is it possible it is profitable too. All you have to do is follow your guidelines and keep determine to be the best and your business will survive

Today I'm going to be talking with Ms. LaTonya Tanner who is a hair stylist and has her own shop. Ms. Tanner will be discussing with me her experience as a small business owner. In this discussion we will also be talking about her products, how she started, how long it took her to make a profit, and what made her decide to go into business for herself. Ms. Tanner has a salon that has six booths with a separate room for customers that would like to get a manicure or pedicure. When she first started out it was only her and one other person that she had went to school with. Now currently she has a total of ten employees. According to Ms. Tanner it took her appromitly two years to make a profit. Just graduating from cosmetology school it was kind of hard for her to get her clientele. She did specials for certain days of the week to try and help to bring her business up. After customers started coming in to get their hair done word got out and people were coming from everywhere.

Ms. Tanner decided to go into business for herself because it was something that she always wanted to do. While going to school she had to work for other people and was not happy sometimes with her schedule or her pay. She made up in her mind that once she had finished school she was going to be in business for herself. She knew that it was going to be hard at first but she had that determination to do it. She said that she was willing to sacrifice what ever it was to be able to be successful. And those sacrifices are paying off very well because she has been neither in business nor for ten years. She said the first three years was the toughest for her and she didn't know if she would be able to stay open. She was able to put together some things to get the word out about her and things started to turn around. About the sixth year she had to move into a bigger building and decided to hire some more workers because she had so much people coming to her. The main product that she sells is a hair treatment made by this company called Motions, She specializes in relaxers and this hair style called a quick weave. They also do nails and feet. Her first client was her best friend Tiana. Even though she had experience from working while in school people were afraid to come to somebody new and let them do their hair.
